The Destination File publishes carefully researched travel guides to help you choose where to stay, what to explore, and how to plan. We focus on the details that make a difference to a trip: location, access, timing, and the practical differences between your options.

What we cover

Our guides cover luxury destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and the Alps. At present that means Punta Mita and Los Cabos on Mexico’s Pacific coast and Tulum on the Caribbean coast; St Barts, Antigua, Grand Cayman, Casa de Campo and Punta Cana in the Caribbean; and Verbier and Zermatt in the Swiss Alps. In each one we explain accommodation areas, beaches or ski terrain, activities and practical travel decisions, and we add destinations as their coverage develops.

Each guide addresses a specific travel question, with a clear answer supported by useful detail. Comparisons explain the advantages and limitations of different choices; planning guides bring together the information needed to organize a stay.

Ownership and commercial connections

The Destination File is a travel publication from Retreats Luxury Oceanfront Rentals, the villa and chalet rental business that works in some of the destinations covered here. Experience working in these destinations helps inform our coverage.

That business operates under several names: Punta Mita Vacation Rentals, Los Cabos Luxury Villas, Tulum Holiday Villas, St Barts Villa Rentals, Chalet Lux Rentals in the Alps, Republic Villa Rentals in the Dominican Republic, and RM Oceanfront Rentals across the Caribbean and Mexico. In each destination it represents villas or chalets directly for their owners and is paid a commission when a guest books one of them.

This publication does not charge readers and does not take booking payments. The publication supports our rental business through referrals. We disclose that relationship beside recommendations of connected businesses. We do not link to other rental companies or booking platforms. Who is responsible for the guides

Guides are published under the byline The Destination File.

AI tools assist with research and drafting. Luis Carlos Rangel reads and approves each guide before publication and selects photographs appropriate to its content. Research draws on identifiable sources and information supplied by the publisher. We identify sources, distinguish firsthand experience where used, and correct confirmed errors.

Travel details change. When we substantially review a guide, we identify that review date. Material corrections include a note explaining what changed; minor wording and typographical fixes do not require one.
