High season: roughly December to April

These are generally the driest and busiest months, and the most expensive. Christmas, New Year and spring school holidays book up early, often with minimum stays for villas. It is the easiest time for beach days and boat trips.

Late spring and early summer

From May, crowds and prices ease, and the weather is usually warm and settled early in the period. It is a good time for a quieter trip and for diving, though showers become more frequent as summer goes on.

Hurricane season: June to November

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November. Most weeks are unaffected, but storms can disrupt travel. If you visit in these months, buy insurance that covers weather disruption, follow official forecasts and ask your accommodation about its storm procedures. The Cayman Islands National Weather Service defines a wet season from mid-May through October, averaging 84.6°F (29.2°C) and about 6.91 inches of rain a month, and a dry season from November to April averaging 80.3°F (26.8°C) and 2.43 inches a month. September and October are the wettest months and March the driest. From late May to November, tropical waves pass roughly every four to five days, which produces the short summer showers; between late October and early April, stronger cold fronts bring the north to north-west Northwesters.

NOAA’s National Hurricane Center puts the peak of the Atlantic season at 10 September, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October, and an average season (1991–2020) of 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. The Cayman weather service’s outlook of 9 April 2026 anticipated somewhat below-normal activity for 2026, with 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes, because expected El Niño conditions increase wind shear. Events worth planning around

• Cayman Cookout: a food and wine festival held each January, with chef demonstrations and gala dinners.
• Batabano: Cayman’s carnival, held in early May, with music, dancing and costumes.
• Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament: usually late April into early May.
• Pirates Week: a November festival with a mock pirate invasion, parades and music.
• Cayman Islands Marathon: held in early December.

Confirmed dates for 2026 and 2027

• Cayman Cookout: 14–17 January 2027 at the Ritz-Carlton on Seven Mile Beach, hosted by Eric Ripert; the hotel sells three-night packages bundling event tickets, so nearby availability tightens that week.
• One Cayman Carnival: in 2026 Batabano and CayMAS merged into a single carnival, with the junior parade on 2 May and the adult road parade on 23 May 2026 through George Town to Public Beach; 2027 dates were not published at the time of writing.
• Pirates Week: the 49th festival, themed ‘Spirits, Gold and Glory’, runs on Cayman Brac on 30–31 October, Grand Cayman on 6–14 November and Little Cayman on 20–21 November 2026, with the night parade and song competition returning, as reported on 28 July 2026.

Winter winds
