St Barts is warm all year, so choosing when to go is mostly about the season’s rhythm: when the island is busiest, when the big events happen, and when weather risk rises. Each period suits a different kind of trip. The best time to visit St Barts depends on weather, events and price.
High season: mid-December to April
The island’s busiest period runs from around mid-December through April, when the weather is generally drier and the Caribbean is at its most comfortable. This is when restaurants are fullest, prices are highest and the best villas book up early. Minimum stays are common, particularly over the holidays.
Christmas and New Year
The festive weeks are the most sought-after of the year, and the island’s tourism office describes New Year’s in St Barts as one of the most exciting times to be there, with celebrations centered on Gustavia’s harbor. Expect the highest rates, long minimum stays and booking windows that open many months in advance.
Sailing season: March and April
Spring brings the island’s best-known regattas. The St Barths Bucket, for large sailing yachts, takes place in March; its organizers list 17–21 March 2027 for the next edition. Les Voiles de Saint-Barth, a week of racing, is held in April. Event weeks bring a lively atmosphere and extra demand for accommodation.
Event dates to plan around
The Bucket organisers publish dates years ahead: 17–21 March 2027, 15–19 March 2028, 14–18 March 2029 and 20–24 March 2030, on their future-dates page as consulted in September 2026, following the pattern of the second-to-last full weekend of March. Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille is described by the tourism office as five days of racing in April, run since 2009; the organiser’s dates page could not be fetched for this update, so confirm the 2027 dates directly. Two November events open the season. The Saint-Barth Cata-Cup, a catamaran regatta, is scheduled for 16–23 November 2026 according to the organiser, with 56 teams registered. The Saint-Barth Gourmet Festival, which the tourism office places in November, had its 2026 programme listed as in preparation on the organiser’s site in September 2026; confirm dates before travel. For a quiet trip, avoid these weeks; for the atmosphere, book accommodation months ahead and expect restaurants in Gustavia to be full.
Late spring and early summer
From May, crowds thin and prices ease. The weather is warm, and it can be a good time for a quieter trip. Check which restaurants and hotels are open, as some adjust their schedules outside high season.
Hurricane season: June to November
St Barts lies in the Atlantic hurricane zone, where the season officially runs from June 1 to November 30. Hurricane Irma caused serious damage in September 2017, and the island recovered. If you travel during these months, buy insurance that covers weather disruption, follow official forecasts, and remember that the island’s small airport and ferries can be affected by storms. Some businesses close for part of the late summer and autumn, so check before booking.
When hurricane risk peaks
The season is not uniform. The National Hurricane Center’s climatology page states that Atlantic activity peaks on 10 September, with most storms between mid-August and mid-October, so June, July and late November carry less statistical risk than the middle of the season. The US State Department’s advisory for Saint Barthélemy, issued 20 August 2026, keeps the island at Level 1 (exercise normal precautions) and names hurricanes and tropical storms as the main hazard, peaking in September. Two practical points follow. The airport works only in daylight, from 8 am to 6 pm according to the tourism office, so a weather delay at St Maarten can become an overnight stay there rather than a late arrival. The ferries cross open water, and Voyager notes that its posted crossing times exclude the arrival channel and docking, so allow slack on a rough day. November
As the season approaches, the island reawakens. The tourism office highlights a gourmet festival in November that brings chefs from mainland France to cook with island chefs.
