Verbier with Kids: Ski School, Beginner Areas and Family Tips

Verbier’s reputation for steep terrain can make families hesitate, but the resort has good facilities for children and beginners. With the right base and some early bookings, it works well for a family ski holiday, including groups where parents want to ski harder terrain while children learn. Planning Verbier with kids comes down to ski school, lifts and logistics.

Ski school for children

The Swiss Ski School in Verbier runs a Kids Club for children aged 3 to 5 at Les Moulins, in central Verbier. The school describes a reserved area with games, a magic carpet for first-timers and a longer lift for more confident children, with morning, afternoon and full-day options; full days include lunch. Group and private lessons are available for older children. Book early for holiday weeks, when places fill quickly.

Ages and abilities: which lesson at which age

The schools draw their age lines differently. The Swiss Ski School’s Kids Club takes ages 3 to 5 at Les Moulins, 9.00–12.00 and 13.30–16.30; 2026/27 prices are CHF 90 for a half day and CHF 150 for a full day with lunch, offered from age 4. Its children’s groups run from age 4 to 13, Monday to Friday plus Saturday mornings, at CHF 350 for five mornings, confirmed with a minimum of four. Adrenaline teaches from age 3, with a one-hour private lesson from 2.5 years. Altitude’s children’s groups cover ages 6 to 16 and ask that children use the toilet independently. For 2026/27 the beginners’ sector ticket is CHF 16 for children born 2012–2019 and free for those born 2020 or later; the magic carpets and the La Tzoumaz baby lift are free throughout.

Beginner areas

The lift company lists three free magic carpets for beginners: at Les Esserts and Les Moulins in Verbier, and at La Tzoumaz. A dedicated beginners’ ticket is also available for the beginner sector. Once children are confident, the gentle runs at La Chaux are a natural next step.

Ski-school meeting points and how to get there

The main meeting point cannot be reached by car. Adrenaline states that group lessons from all Verbier schools meet at the top of the Les Esserts piste at hole 17 of the golf course; the tourism office confirms stop 17, bans private drop-off there and says access is only by free shuttle line 1. Altitude lists its group meeting point in the Pub Mont Fort car park near Médran, with pick-up outside the lift station, and private-lesson points at Médran under the big screen, Les Ruinettes, Les Esserts below the button lift, Savoleyres and Les Attelas. Adrenaline’s private instructors wait at the bottom of the gondola by the giant screen, or at the Les Esserts bus stop for beginners. Ask your school which point applies and allow shuttle time; the free shuttle runs every day of the year.

Gentle sectors for the family

• Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz: sunny, gentler terrain popular with families.
• Bruson: largely tree-lined runs that are pleasant in poor visibility.
• La Chaux: wide, easy runs with views, for progressing skiers.

Where to stay with children

Choose accommodation close to the ski school meeting point or with an easy shuttle. Carrying skis and small children up steep, icy streets is the most common frustration of a Verbier family trip. Non-ski days: sledging, pools, Bruson and Mont Fort

Sledging is the simplest non-ski afternoon. A reserved sledge area at Les Esserts has a free magic carpet, reached by free shuttle 2 toward Le Hameau. The La Tzoumaz run from Savoleyres drops 711 metres and is described by the lift company as steep in places and meant for good sledgers; children under 8 must be accompanied, helmets and sledge straps are required, and sledges can be hired in the resort or at the Savoleyres top station.

The Mondzeu indoor pool in the centre is 19 by 8 metres at 28°C, CHF 8 for adults and CHF 6 for children over 6; its published hours are for July–August 2026, so confirm winter times. The sports centre stays open during works with a climbing wall, squash and tennis, but the municipality expects the new building with pools and a children’s water zone to open during 2028. Bruson, by gondola from Le Châble, is described by the tourism office as human-scale with slopes for beginners and intermediates, a quieter family ski day. Non-skiers can ride the Barnes Line gondola and the Jumbo to the Mont Fort platform on a pedestrian pass; the last descent is 3.30 pm. When to go

Families tied to school holidays face the busiest and most expensive weeks, especially in February. Book accommodation, ski school and equipment early.
