What Is Verbier? The Village, Val de Bagnes and the 4 Vallées
How the village, the valley below it and the wider 4 Vallées ski area fit together, and what that means for planning.
A high Alpine village in Valais, Switzerland, and the gateway to the 4 Vallées ski area, known for its expert and off-piste terrain.

Verbier is a village of chalets on a south-facing terrace above the Val de Bagnes in the Swiss canton of Valais, at about 1,500 meters. It is the largest resort in the 4 Vallées, a linked ski area with 410 kilometers of runs and freeride routes that reaches 3,330 meters at Mont Fort. The resort’s reputation rests on its advanced and off-piste terrain, but it also has dedicated beginner areas and long intermediate runs.
Most visitors arrive through Geneva, by road or by train to Le Châble in the valley, where a gondola climbs to the village. Where you stay in Verbier shapes daily life more than in many resorts: the village is spread across a hillside, and the walk, shuttle or drive to the main lifts varies from chalet to chalet. Our guides start with those practical decisions.
